Raumati Beach School Fundraising – The Future
The
Board of Trustees (BOT) sees aligning fundraising with school priorities as key
to making Raumati Beach School the best that it can be for our children.
It
is for this reason that the BOT will be coordinating all school activities, with
co-operation and support from the school community and groups within.
Fundraising Goals
One
of the current Key Strategies underpinning the direction that the school is
taking is, to -
·
Provide an optimal physical
environment that enhances learning.
We
are currently at the start of an extensive building programme which will begin
to provide the sort of facilities we need to ensure that our children and staff
have the best environment to learn and work in.
There
is much work to be done in this area. The current building projects are Ministry
of Education (MoE) funded. We are expecting to receive extra funding around the
middle of this year to continue renovating our school.
The
vision for the school is to have a total learning environment both inside and
out. While the MoE provides funding for the classrooms and for maintenance, it
does not provide enough funds for improving the outdoor environment –
that is left to the community.
Major Goal
The
school leadership have identified, and the BOT have endorsed, the following
projects which we believe would add tremendously to our school.
· Interior Quad redevelopment – First
This would see an outdoor stage constructed behind the Junior Block. Having
this would allow outdoor performances to take place, such as Kapa Haka, outdoor
music concerts and drama etc. To complement the stage, doors would be
constructed at the back of the stage leading to the junior corridor and
classrooms. Seating and planters would also be built within the quad to add to
the environment of the area
· Backfield development – Then
Our current field is in very poor condition. It lacks good drainage, has
no irrigation and limited grass cover. The back field development has three
stages:
1.
New
Netball / Tennis Court located behind the existing court.
2.
New
Rugby and Soccer field. (Running East-West with new surface, drainage and
irrigation).
3.
Hockey
Turf (Netball Court size) Running East- West next to Kapiti College.
These are big projects. We believe these have the
potential to make a BIG difference to our children’s learning experience at
Raumati Beach School through making these developments happen.
The full costing for these projects has not been
completed, but they are likely to be in the order of:
·
Interior quad / stage: $40-50,000
·
Backfield: new netball / tennis courts: $60,000
·
Backfield: synthetic courts $100,000
With these goals and clearly endorsed vision, it becomes much easier to
approach businesses for sponsorship and charities for donations.
We know this is a lot of money and it will take more than a year to
achieve. With these goals in mind, and breaking each down to “bite sized
chunks” we can, and will achieve it.
Supplementary Goals
We recognise that a number of smaller items are needed through out the
school (expansion of playgrounds, sun shades, sports equipment, are a few
examples).
To be able to fund these, for every $1 raised by the school community,
80c will go towards the major items above, and 20c will go towards the smaller
items. Which smaller items this money will go towards, will be selected in a
ballot process, more details of this to come.
In the events planned, there is a significant aspect of just getting
together as a school and having fun.
This will help to strengthen the school community spirit.
How can we achieve this
target?
We are proposing to have a well publicised events calendar for the year.
There will be one marquee event per year, one “major” event per term, and a
number of smaller opportunities through out the year, including discos and
mufti-days, etc. Other opportunities will be included as they present
themselves. There is and will be a range to participate in, so if golf isn’t
your thing, maybe the Christmas Market is.
Please note, that fundraising for the school camp (etc) is outside of
this – you will see these events and requests coming from time to time.
Money raised for these events will not go towards the goals outlined above.
Planned Fundraising Activities
Below are the events planned at this time – they will be expanded
and added to during the year. The
school community will be well notified of these events.
1. Rotary Fun Run – 7 March – Completed
A fun run event held by Rotary in which all proceeds raised come back to
the school. Notice of this has been distributed. (Rotary is coordinating this).
2. Wholly Bagels – The 1st week of every month during term – On going
For only $20 you can choose your own selection of 13 bagels. Orders must
be in by 9am on the first Tuesday of each month, and will be delivered to your
child’s class two days later on the following Thursday. $5 of each order comes
to the school. (Ian Thompson is coordinating this).
3. “RBS Wheels Around Weka” – 28 March, Weka Park – Completed
A
sponsored bike ride for children. This is a team event of up to 6 children in a
team, completing one lap of Weka Park at a time in an endurance style event.
The inner part of the track will be marked for the teams 'pit' area. Families
can pitch tents and have picnics in and around the park. (Dan Ralph is
coordinating this).
4. Golf Day – 6 May, Kapiti Golf Club and Village Inn – Completed
The
Golf Day is a great fundraiser for the school. Teams of four register for 18
holes of golf which includes a goodie bag, nibbles, drinks, and a BBQ during
the day. After the golf, there is an auction at the Village Inn, to which the
community is also invited. Help is needed on the day with registration,
running raffles, helping with the food etc. (Debbie Warren and Alana Webb are
coordinating this).
5.
Westfield Fun Run (was Golden Circle) – Completed
A fun run
event with prizes, organized externally, with proceeds raised coming back to
the school. Remember Pete the Pineapple from last year… (The Fundraising Group
is coordinating this).
6.
Lifepac NZ Survival Kits – until 29 October!
A range of survival kits to choose from. We’re all had the warnings, tsunami alerts, earthquakes – perfect opportunity to get ready NOW.
7.
Kaptivate Adventures Fun Activity Day: 28 November
A full day out, white water rafting, high rope climbing and BBQ. Sunday 28 November. Limited space and for all 10 years and over.
8.
Raumati Beach School Christmas Fair – 3 December, School
Building
on the successful 2009 event, we see this as the marquee event for the school.
We see this becoming a major event, including arts, food, rides, fun and possibly
the talent quest finals (among some of the ideas). (Wendy Keating and Vicki
Wright are coordinating this).
How can you help?
We
need your buy-in to the direction outlined above, and your support to deliver
the best for our children.
We
also need people to help out with the events – each event has a number of
different tasks – and through the year we will be calling on the school community
to help with these tasks.
The
event coordinators will be breaking each event into a number of bite sized
activities that you will be able to volunteer to help with.
We are
planning to have a variety of working bees over the year – any and all
help at these will be welcome. The dates and activities are not finalised yet.
We are
counting on you, the school community to become involved in these, and other
events, so we can provide the best possible learning environment for our children.
Feedback
The BOT are very keen to hear from you about this plan, and any other
ideas for fundraising and community spirit building, as well as other ways to
make this a success.
The BOT will ensure that we keep the school community well updated of
the progress towards the goals above, through the newsletter and web site, as
well as the fund raising programme as it develops.
We look forward to an exciting and fun year ahead for Raumati Beach
School.
